Core Modern
Our curriculum teaches modern dance technique using the method developed by our founder, dance pioneer Steffi Nossen. It incorporates rhythms, patterns, collaboration and creativity along with other founders of modern dance education such as Martha Graham, May O’Donnell, Lester Horton, Alvin Ailey and Merce Cunningham. All core Modern classes begin in September and culminate in a year-end performance in May.
Core Modern Dance Classes begin September 4th. Spring Semester begins January 10th. Admission is always open, so you can join at any time! Plus, we offer prorated tuition to ensure flexible enrollment options for all.
This class provides a creative introduction to the fundamental vocabulary and curriculum of modern dance. Through structured sequences and dances based on The Steffi Method, students will learn about rhythm, patterns, and levels. We also introduce basic composition studies to help each dancer develop their individual artistic voice and to foster collaboration among the dancers.
Level II builds upon your understanding of The Steffi Method and modern dance vocabulary by introducing the fundamental concepts of contraction and release. This level also challenges dancers with more intricate rhythmic patterns in both center work and across-the-floor exercises. Through improvisation and composition studies, we aim to foster individual creativity, self-expression, and confidence.
This blended class is designed for dancers transitioning between levels. It aims to deepen their understanding of modern dance techniques by emphasizing proper alignment, building strength and flexibility, and focusing on spinal articulation. Students will also work on improving control during floor work and while traveling, as well as in jumps and musicality. This class will help dancers gain a stronger grasp of more advanced center and floor exercises, alongside further development of their improvisation and composition skills.
