Performances hosted by Steffi Nossen School of Dance provide audiences with an experience that transcends communication barriers to touch audiences of diverse backgrounds.
Dance is a universal language that transcends communication barriers to touch audiences of diverse backgrounds. The Steffi Nossen School of Dance emphasizes the art, joy and discipline of dance. Our faculty and choreographers nurture the technical and artistic development of each student, helping them to reach their potential and flourish in an ensemble setting. Dancers are exposed to a complete performing experience that includes participation in all aspects of bringing a new piece to life, from the creation of choreography to costuming and staging.
A Choreography Showcase brings together notable professional choreographers and artists along with pre-professional dancers from across the region in this unique performance designed to highlight new, innovative work in a culturally driven community. The Showcase is held at The Emelin Theatre a renowned, Westchester-based theater, in the vibrant city of Mamaroneck, NY. As part of our audience development programs we hold a Q&A after the show with all the dancers and choreographers. This is a great opportunity for both the audience and the choreographer to gain feedback and insight into the choreographic process and audience perception of the work.
Past showcases have included the celebrated work of choreographers such as Claire Porter, Peter Kyle, Annmarie Mazzini, Adam Baruch, Indah Walsh, Caterina Rago, Matthew James, Tracie Stanfield/SynthesisDANCE, Gierre Godley/PROJECT 44, Erin Dillion/Erin Dillion & Dancers.
Our Annual Community & Benefit Concerts are an important part of the Steffi Nossen Mission and Outreach Program allowing over 700 children and adults who would not typically be able to attend a dance performance be part of an exciting evening of dance and artistic expression. Our audiences includes some of our Steffi Nossen families, a diverse group of children and adults with developmental disabilities and other community groups and organizations that are extremely appreciative of this wonderful opportunity. Our dancers benefit from the unique experience as well, sharing the art of dance for such a special audience gives a broader sense of purpose and community values to our dancers and families.
The Foundation is a dance resource for all of Westchester County – promoting the awareness of dance, the opportunity to dance, and enriching the dance environment for students, professionals and audiences. The Steffi Nossen Dance Foundation provides outreach programs for a broad and diverse population. We believe that the enjoyment of dance is universal and can enrich the lives of all members of the community.
A tradition since the founding of the Steffi Nossen School of Dance, the Annual Anniversary Gala is the highest performance opportunity of our pre-professional Master Class Program and Steffi Nossen Dance Company. The Gala performance is held at the acclaimed, Performing Arts Center at SUNY Purchase College every spring and is the Foundations largest fundraiser supporting our extensive Outreach Programs in Westchester County and Financial Aid Fund. Gala attendees are invited to a beautiful Silent Auction and Reception before the performance to celebrate the dedication, hard work and passion of our current dancers along with the legacy of the Foundation and Steffi Nossen’s mission.
Our Children’s Concert is for our Young Movers Program which includes our Creative Movement and Ballet/Tap classes. This wonderful performance opportunity is the culmination of a year of learning and growing in class. The relaxed setting is a great introduction to performing on a stage for our youngest dancers and a perfect small and supportive environment that truly allows our dancers to shine.
