This Women's History month we want to highlight sp

This Women's History month we want to highlight special women in the world of dance. We are kicking things off with Loie Fuller (1862-1928).

Born in the United States in the midst of the Civil War, Loie Fuller makes her career in Paris, where she becomes a symbol of the Belle Epoque, performing most famously at the Folies-Bergère. She was a symbolist choreographer, seeking to use dance to go beyond herself; her original experiments in scenery and the plastic arts fascinated a great number of artists such as the Lumière brothers, Toulouse-Lautrec, Rodin and Mallarmé. In 1891, she created the notorious Serpentine Dance, where she pirouettes while spinning large sheets of material lit by projectors in changing colours. Fascinated by working with light, Fuller was the first choreographer to take advantages of the technological advances of her day to create visual effects.

Summer Dance 2024 Registration is now open! Sign

Summer Dance 2024 Registration is now open! Sign up by April 20th to take advantage of our Early Bird 10% discount. We offer a wide array of camps and intensives for a variety of ages, levels and disciplines. From preschoolers to adults dancers will have the opportunity to enroll in any of the school’s 1 or 2 week offerings which will focus on giving the students a diverse dance experience while enhancing their technical and artistic growth. This concert is about bringing together our community to experience a night of energetic and spectacular dancing performed by our very own pre-professional program with dancers that are 4th -12th grade. After the performance your dancer can experience a back-stage tour, meet and greet some of our dancers and enjoy some cookies and juice in the lobby.

In our final week of #BlackHistoryMonth we want to

In our final week of #BlackHistoryMonth we want to highlight Sidra Bell. The daughter of a trained dancer, Sidra Bell began dancing at a young age at the Dance Theater of Harlem – and she has continued dancing and choreographing ever since.

Bell earned her BA in history at Yale University, and then went on to pursue her MFA in Choreography at Purchase College Conservatory of Dance. She has worked as an adjunct professor at many universities, and has been an artist-in-residence at Harvard.

Her work has been commissioned by many of the world’s most prestigious dance companies – among them, the Julliard School, Ailey II, and BODYTRAFFIC. In 2020, she was the first Black woman to have her choreography commissioned by the New York City Ballet. She has won multiple awards, including from the Solo-Tanz Theater Festival in Stuttgart.

Deborah (born January 16, 1950) is an American actress, dancer, choreographer, singer-songwriter, director, producer, and a former member of the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities.[1][2] She has been nominated 20 times for an Emmy Award (winning five),[3] two Tony Awards,[4] and has also won a Golden Globe Award[5] and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1991. Due to inclement weather the school will be closed Tuesday, February 13th. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and look forward to seeing you soon. Please share this update with any family members that planned to attend classes. Young Movers, Core and Technique program classes will make-up tomorrow's class on Tuesday, May 28th. Adult Yoga class students will receive a separate email with a link to their make-up class next week.
