Judy Honoree Icon.jpg

Over the past 35 years Judy Ross has been giving to the Steffi Nossen School of Dance and Foundation in countless ways and doing so with the love and attention of a supporter, friend, mother and grandmother. We have chosen to honor Judy this year because of all that she has brought to the School and Foundation and all that she fights for and continues to strive for.

Judy oversees all of The Steffi Nossen Dance Foundation Outreach Programs and efforts including Moving Wheels and Heels, Parkinson’s and Cerebral Palsy Programs and all of our Adaptive Dance programs in and out of the School. Judy also manages all After-School and In-School Enrichment and additional out sourced performances. She cares deeply about continuing the outreach efforts that Steffi Nossen herself put into place and will fight for every child, youth and adult to have the equal opportunity to share in the love of dance.

Judy also oversees all Grants including applications, reports and finances along with managing Marketing and all ads. She works without complaint and gives her all every time. She always greets everyone with a smile and wants to truly learn about who you are and what you care about. She listens, reacts with thought and comes back to learn more. We should all learn something from her.

These are just a few of the reasons why we chose to honor Judy Ross and her outstanding 35 years with The Steffi Nossen School of Dance and Foundation.

Over the past 15 years choreographer Pam Tanowitz has become known for her unflinchingly post-modern treatment of classical dance vocabulary. Her abstract movement challenges stylistic expectations, conventions of composition as well as the concert-going experience itself.  Tanowitz’s mission is to revitalize abstraction and formalism by obliterating the self-imposed dialectical boundaries of each, while stretching the material into uncharted territory.pam-tanowitz.png
Pam Tanowitz Dance was founded in 2000 as a platform for Tanowitz to explore her vision with a consistent group of dancers. Since then the company has received commissions and residencies at prestigious performance venues such as The Joyce Theater, Bard Summerscape Festival, New York Live Arts, The Guggenheim Museum’s Works & Process series, Dance Theater Workshop, Danspace Project, Lincoln Center Out of Doors, Chicago Dancing Festival, Baryshnikov Arts Center and Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival. The company has been selected by The New York Times Best of Dance series in 2013, 2014 and 2015. In 2016, Pam Tanowitz was the winner of the Juried Bessie Award for her work, "the story progresses as if in a dream of glittering surfaces".

Pam Tanowitz is the recipient of the Baryshnikov Arts Center's Cage Cunningham Fellowship.
